Spreading the Arts Throughout the Community
For the past ten years, staff of the Northern Lakes Center for the Arts have worked closely with Amery Public Schools and with area nursing homes to spread the arts throughout the community.
Don Hansen, shown here (below) reading from Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology and acting in Zona Gale’s The Neighbors, is known to area First Graders as “The Word Wizard” (pictured at right). He brings his love of reading to those young people and to area senior citizens as well during his weekly visitations to local nursing homes.
LaMoine MacLaughlin regularly visits fourth grade classrooms, bringing historical artwork to exhibit with him, which he accompanies with a reading from a Wisconsin author. As “First Poet Laureate of Amery,” he also works with local high school English teachers to enrich their regular writing curriculum.
